Among India’s thirty-six States and UTs, seven have classified Jats as Other Backward Classes (OBCs), namely Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Some historians and academics believe the Jats are the descendants of ancient people who lived in northern India at one time, such as Aryans or Scythians. Historically, the specific origins of these people have been contested.

The word actually means  Jat countable noun. A Jat is a member of a people who live throughout northern India.

The Jat Sikhs (more commonly known as Jatt Sikhs) are an ethnoreligious group originating from the Indian subcontinent and a subgroup of the Jat people. A large land holding makes them one of the dominant communities in Punjab.

Sidhu Moose Wala was represented by the Jatt community as a very prestigious member, and will always be remembered as someone who fought for the farmer’s rights and made people feel free again, until his untimely death.
